Katie Neal

Contemporary teacher

Originally from Bournemouth, Dorset, I began Classical Ballet training from a young age, closely followed by my uptake of Jazz and Tap. At the Carrington Hollywood Academy of Dance, under the direction of Janne Carrington, I studied RAD and ISTD grades. Simultaneously, in the year 2000 I became a Junior associate of The Royal Ballet School, and in the following years I graduated to become a Mid associate, until leaving in 2005. It was at this point I discovered Contemporary Dance, and was accepted onto the Centre for Advanced Training (CAT) scheme, at The
After graduating from the CAT scheme and completing my A-Levels in Politics, Philosophy and Ancient History at Parkstone Grammar School, Dorset, I auditioned for various conservatoires across Britain. In 2011, I accepted my offer to join the BA (Hons) in Contemporary Dance at London Contemporary Dance School.

At LCDS, I studied Ballet and Contemporary (Cunningham and Release) techniques daily under an incredible faculty including, Patricia Rianne, Laurent Cavanna, Jeannie Steele, Marina Collard, Kate Price, Rahel Vonmoos, Baptiste Bourgounon and Darren Ellis. As well as technique I have studied modules in Choreography, Improvisation, Repetoire, Gaga, Choreology, Music, Design, Anatomy and Partner Work, both Classical and Contact. These modules have been taught by inspirations such as Eva Recacha, Chisato Ohno and Rick Nodine.

My time at LCDS also allowed for me to choreograph my own work and be a part of other student works. A personal highlight was a collaborative work by myself and Finnish dancer, Jenna Broas entitled 'Radiation.' Since its debut in 2012, Jenna and I went on to perform it in the Robin Howard Dance Theatre. Patricia Rianne, Tour Director of LC3, then invited myself and Italian dancer, Riccardo Tarocco to perform a revised version of the piece in Verona, Italy as a part of the '8 BEATS' festival.

My third year proved a year of great opportunities and I had the pleasure of working with Jeremy Nelson, Jose Agudo and Tony Adigun. We were treated to weekly mock auditions with the ikes of Kerry Nicholls, Etta Murfitt, Richard Alston and Victor Fung which provided invaluable audition experience. Clips of my graduation piece AreaSquared by Tony Adigun, can be seen in my showreel.

Post grad worked with Avant Garde, Alvin Ailey choreographers, GAP, music videos and loads more...
