Shelley Lawlor

Principal and Ballet teacher

Shelley started dancing at 6 years old at a local Ballet School, run by Shirley Rees-Edwards . Encouraged by her ballet teacher to audition at 10 for the highly acclaimed Arts Educational Schools, Tring Park, she was awarded a place and gained a full scholarship to study for 5 years.

At 15, Shelley auditioned for Laine Theatre Arts in Epsom & was fortunate to be offered funding and began a 3 year Performers/Teachers Course culminating in ISTD Associate teaching Exams in Ballet & Modern.

After 12 years dancing professionally in the UK and worldwide, performing in shows in Japan and Malaysia, Shelley met her husband Sean and they have been married for over 25 years. They have been blessed with three girls, who all love to dance!

In April 2004, Shelley began her preschool ballet classes at a community centre with just 6 students, including her youngest daughter, and Lawlor School of Dance was born! We currently have classes in three locations across Christchurch and Somerford teaching approximately 150 students.

She became a registered teacher of The Royal Academy of Dance in 2009 after successfully passing and completing a 2 year course and is now certified on the Progressing ballet technique programme.

"Shelley is the perfect ballet teacher for my daughter and I wish she had been mine as a child! I might've stuck with it longer! Shelley is compassionate, caring, professional and knows how to relate to people of ALL ages! We simply adore her and would recommend her classes to anyone. She certainly knows how to nurture one's love of ballet "
